Rainbow Chorus are bidding for a cash boost from the Tesco Community Grants initiative. The scheme sees grants of up to £1,500, £1,000 and £500 awarded to local community projects and this quarter’s vote in Brighton & Hove will see Tesco support a local LGBTQ+ project.

Three groups have been shortlisted to receive the cash award and shoppers are being invited to head along to Tesco stores to vote for who they think should take away the top grant. Customers will cast their vote using a token given to them at the check-out each time they shop. Voting is open in the following stores in July, August and September:

  • Tesco Superstores: Hove; Portslade.
  • Tesco Express Hove: Station Approach (Esso); Denmark Villas; The Droveway; Western Road and Westway.
  • Tesco Express Brighton: Jubilee Street; Queens Road; Woodingdean (Esso).

Rainbow Chorus is one of the groups on the shortlist and the following information on our project will be displayed:
Rainbow Chorus
Deaf & Sign Language Users Included

Rainbow Chorus will provide inclusive concerts with BSL interpretation plus outreach to the sign language user community to introduce choral music to the widest possible audience.

Finola Brophy, Chair of Trustees commented: “We are delighted that Tesco have decided to support LGBTQ+ projects in Brighton and Hove and that Rainbow Chorus will be included in the vote. We know how important it is for organisations to be inclusive and reaching out to the Deaf and Sign Language user community ensures our performances are open to all. Winning this vote will enable us to continue this outreach for the next year, including providing a British Sign Language interpreter at the annual World Aids Day concert on 1 st December. Please support Rainbow Chorus with your vote each time you shop.”

So far Tesco Community Grants has awarded over £96 million to more than 46,000 community projects. Anyone can nominate a project and organisations can apply online. To find out more visit www.tesco.com/communitygrants.
